"What's Cooking with the Greeks"

At Ypapanti, just like with any other family, when we get together, we like to eat. Understanding this, the women of the Saint Catherine's Philoptochos Society of Ypapanti have assembled some of their most delicious family recipes, which have been handed down from generation to generation, and compiled them into a fabulous cookbook entitled "What's Cooking with the Greeks", now in its second edition.

In this fabulous cookbook you will find chapters specializing in everything from appetizers to main entrees, and of course, we could not forget the legendary, scrumptious Greek desserts, with several Baklava and Galataboureko recipes. Not only are all the recipes easy to make, but the cookbook itself facilitates the effort by featuring a built-in bookstand, as shown here.

But don't take our word for it. We have provided two recipes we are sure you and your family will enjoy. Start off the night with a fabulous piece of Mousaka, of which we're sure you'll eat more than one, and finish the meal with some traditional Greek Kourambiethes cookies. Of course, if you just can't wait, these and many other delicacies will be available at the Food Festival for you this and every year.

Greek Jewelry

If you want to look like a Greek, a good way to start is by wearing some jewelry from the stand in the Olympia Hall. Rafael's features beautiful imported Greek gold and silver chains, rings, earrings, bracelets, and charms, including Byzantine style crosses and other religious specialties. Rafael's will be at the Festival Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.

Religious Artifacts and Books

After taking a tour of the Ypapanti sanctuary, stop by The St. Kyriaki Bookstore to find a variety of religious articles, including icons of many sizes, religious history books, Divine Liturgy texts, children's religious books, prayer ropes, and candles.

Festival Shop

If after eating and dancing like a Greek, you decide you would like a memento to take home with you, we have just the place. The St. Catherine Philoptochos Society's Festival Shop has a variety of items including Greek music CDs and cassettes, T-shirts, aprons, vases, calendars with beautiful Greek scenes, Greek sailor hats, flags, and much more. Just stop by and you will be surprised by what you'll find.
